Advanced training, weapons, and leadership development.
The Leadership Program at KNS Martial Arts in London, Ontario is designed for students who want more than just martial arts classes. This program gives students the opportunity to build advanced karate skills while developing confidence, responsibility, discipline, and strong leadership habits that carry over into everyday life.
Leadership students receive additional training that includes advanced curriculum, weapons training, personal development, and leadership-based responsibilities within the dojo. Weapons are included in the program, making Leadership a great option for students who want a more complete martial arts experience while continuing to grow in skill, focus, and maturity.
At KNS Martial Arts, we believe leadership is built through consistent effort, positive attitude, and learning how to help others succeed. Our Leadership Program is ideal for students who are ready for greater challenge, deeper commitment, and more opportunities to grow through martial arts training.

The bo is a long wooden staff used in our Leadership Program to teach strong fundamentals, body control, and powerful technique. Students learn how to handle a longer weapon with balance, precision, and confidence.
The bo helps students develop posture, grip strength, coordination, timing, and strong defensive awareness.
In Okinawan tradition, the bo is one of the clearest examples of a weapon that could be preserved in a simple and practical form during times of restriction.
The bo could be kept as a simple wooden pole or staff rather than an obvious weapon. That made it easier to have nearby without drawing attention

The jo is a shorter wooden staff used in our Leadership Program to build quick handling, precision, and technical control. It gives students a chance to work with a more compact weapon while still learning strong traditional movement.
The jo helps students improve speed, precision, control, timing, and smooth transitions.
The jo could be kept as a shorter plain staff or stick, making it less noticeable than a sword or spear. Even though it looked simple, it still allowed effective training in striking, control, and movement. It was a practical weapon to study because it could pass as an ordinary wooden staff while still teaching valuable traditional skills.

The sai is trained in pairs in our Leadership Program and helps students build coordination, control, focus, and technical accuracy. It is a weapon that requires discipline and careful hand positioning.
The sai helps students develop hand control, coordination, trapping skill, accuracy, and sharp technical focus.
In Okinawan tradition, the sai was associated with officials and law enforcement, and was used for protection, control, and catching criminals. It was commonly carried in pairs, and in some traditions a third sai was kept in reserve at the belt, including in case one needed to be thrown. That history makes the sai especially meaningful for teaching control, discipline, and precision.

The kama is a paired weapon used in our Leadership Program to teach careful control, coordination, and awareness. Students learn to handle it with discipline and respect while improving technical skill.
The kama helps students build coordination, focus, discipline, edge awareness, and controlled movement.
The kama is the clearest example of a practical Okinawan tool being adapted into a weapon. Because it was shaped like a farming sickle, it could be hidden in plain sight and kept as an everyday tool while still preserving martial training. That is one of the main reasons the kama has become such an important symbol of Okinawan weapons history.

The katana is represented in our Leadership Program as one of the most iconic weapons in Japanese martial history, closely connected to the samurai. It symbolizes discipline, honor, precision, and traditional swordsmanship.
The katana helps students develop posture, timing, distance control, discipline, focus, and strong technical mechanics.
The katana was the signature sword of the samurai and was traditionally worn through the waist sash, or obi, with the blade facing upward for a fast, efficient draw. It was often carried alongside a shorter companion sword, forming a pair that represented rank, readiness, and the warrior tradition of Japan. That history is what makes the katana such a powerful symbol within traditional martial arts.
